Weslaco East sends four to the next level

Weslaco East had a packed crowd Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the signing of four student-athletes to various colleges and universities to continue athletics and pursue a higher education.

Ambrosia Pena is headed to the University of Southwest to be a dual athlete. In Hobbs, New Mexico, Pena will play both softball and volleyball.

Carlos Hernandez was a swimmer during his time at Weslaco East, but is headed to Judson University as a volleyball player. Hernandez was spotted by the NCCAA school located on the outskirts of Chicago while playing club volleyball.

Judson University volleyball is currently in season and competing in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference of the NAIA.

The baseball program adds two more players to its list of athletes to sign to the next level. Antonio Balboa and Joey Ramirez are off to Vernon College and Ranger College respectively.

Pena, Balboa and Ramirez’s are in the early stages of their seasons.
