Despite a winning last week, San Benito drop down to No. 3 in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association’s state softball poll.
The Greyhounds like all teams in the Valley are set to play district games. San Benito hosts Brownsville Rivera at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a team in the top 25 last week, as district play begins to heat up.
Los Fresnos is in the top 10 of the TGCA poll, coming at No. 9 this week and have a tough meeting against Weslaco High at 6:30 p.m. in Weslaco. La Joya High is No. 18 this week and like Los Fresnos, have a stern opponent in PSJA High. The two meet at 7 p.m. at La Joya High.
Mission Veterans and Rio Grande City continue to have a great season and are ranked No. 12 and No. 13 respectively in the Class 5A poll. The two also meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mission Veterans.
Brownsville Lopez cracks the top 25, coming at No. 25. The Lobos are currently tied for first with Mercedes and Weslaco East. Mercedes featured in the rankings last week. Weslaco East has been ranked previously.
The Wildcats beat the Lobos, but lost to the Tigers. The Lobos beat the Tigers, while the Tigers beat the Wildcats. Weslaco East has the toughest game of the three on Tuesday, facing Harlingen South at 6:30 p.m. in Weslaco.
District 32-3A starts on Tuesday, the last district to begin its season. Rio Hondo at Santa Rosa at 6 p.m. and Lyford at Progreso at 5 p.m. will be in action for the five-team district.
