McAllen Rowe’s Joseph Moreno caught a touchdown pass in the second overtime to lift the Warriors to their first win of the year, 26-20 against Mercedes on Thursday at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium in McAllen.

Moreno also caught a touchdown pass from John Perez earlier in the game.

“He had a good night,” Rowe coach Paul Reyes said. “He had a couple of drops, but he was able to still focus on the game.”

Rowe got solid production from Moreno and Hector Bosquez at the receiver position and Perez and secondary option Jesus Sanchez at quarterback.

A defense still missing a few players due to injury made enough plays to keep Mercedes under control, Reyes said.

“I thought we played extremely well,” Reyes said. “The thing I was happy for was we fought for the win. We made plays on both sides of the ball. The defense had two tremendous stops and played very well throughout the game. Gave up a couple of long plays but sometimes that happens when they have great athletes. It was a great win for us. Just a good, overall team win. I was happy for the kids.”

LA JOYA HIGH 13, DONNA NORTH 6: At La Joya, the Coyotes picked up their first win of the season, denying the Chiefs the first varsity victory in program history.

RAYMONDVILLE 28, GRULLA 21: At Rio Grande City, the Gators fell to 0-2 in a loss to Raymondville.
