The following are the teams in the RGVSports.com top 10 poll, with first-place votes in parentheses and total points based on 10 points for a first-place vote through 1 point for a 10th-place vote. The six votes are the writers and editors who cover RGV high school football for AIM Media’s three newspapers: The Monitor, The Valley Morning Star, and The Brownsville Herald.

The McAllen High Bulldogs, Weslaco High Panthers and Port Isabel Tarpons are the latest teams to enter the RGVSports.com top 10 poll after a thrilling Week 5 of high school football action across the Rio Grande Valley.
No. 8 McAllen High (4-1, 3-1) is back in the top 10 for the first time since its Week 2 loss to McAllen Memorial. The Bulldogs have ripped off three consecutive wins, including a 42-28 victory against Brownsville Porter during Week 5.
Weslaco High (3-0, 1-0) has fallen in the receiving votes category for three weeks in a row, but the Panthers have finally broken into the top 10 at No. 9 after defeating Donna North 42-3 last week.
Port Isabel (4-0, 1-0) enters the top 10 for the first time this season at No. 10 after topping Robstown 55-40 last week in their District 16-4A DII opener. The Tarpons are scheduled to host Raymondville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The top seven spots remained the same as last week’s poll with No. 1 Edinburg Vela (5-0, 3-0) holding on to the top spot with all six first-place votes.
Mercedes (5-0, 2-0) has not budged from No. 2 all season, either, as the Tigers earned a 69-21 win over Roma last week. Next for the Tigers is a rivalry game against Edcouch-Elsa set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tiger Stadium in Mercedes.
District 32-6A owns the next three spots in the poll led by No. 3 Harlingen High, No. 4 San Benito and No. 5 Harlingen South. The Cardinals (3-1, 1-0) topped Brownsville Rivera 41-10 last week, while the Greyhounds (4-0, 1-0) beat Los Fresnos 38-7. Meanwhile, Harlingen South flew by Brownsville Hanna 41-12. No. 3 Harlingen and No. 5 Harlingen South are set for a Week 6 showdown at 7 p.m. Friday at Boggus Stadium in Harlingen.
No. 6 McAllen Memorial (4-1, 4-0) emerged victorious from its top 10 rivalry game against last week’s No. 8 McAllen Rowe 16-6. The Mustangs are on a bye this week, returning to action Oct. 8 against Brownsville Pace in Brownsville.
The PSJA North Raiders (3-1, 1-0) remain at No. 7 after a 63-0 walloping La Joya High during Week 5. The Raiders are set for a key District 31-6A game against Edinburg North set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at PSJA Stadium in Pharr
