Tarpons Relays welcomed Valley track athletes

PORT ISABEL — Track athletes from across the Rio Grande Valley headed Friday to Port Isabel to compete in the Tarpons Relays.

Port Isabel’s Madison Ramos won the high jump, San Benito’s Alayla Cruz finished first in the pole vault, San Isidro’s Mia Alvarado outjumped three Lionettes for first in the long jump and La Feria’s Ashley Reath won the triple jump.

Los Fresnos’ Karina Alvarez easily won the shot put, and Port Isabel’s Chelsea Gonzalez also cruised in the discus.

On the track, La Feria’s Liana Navarro beat the field by more than one minute in the two-mile run, and San Benito’s Deandra Ibarra claimed gold in the mile run. Los Fresnos Lady Falcons athlete Ayelen Torvik took first in the 800 meters.

In the 400, Rosa Barrera of North Mission IDEA won the race. Alvarado added another gold in the 300 hurdles.

In a great day at the track for Los Fresnos, Kathleene Salazar won the 100, Eliana Vasquez took the 200 and Jennamarie Rios was first in the 100 hurdles. The Lady Falcons also won the 400 and 800 relays.

Port Isabel took first in the 1,600 relay.

In boys track results, Arturo Alaniz won the 300 hurdles and San Benito’s Devon Robinson took the 110 hurdles. La Feria’s Evan Torres placed first in the two-mile run, and Alex Gutierrez did so in the mile run.

La Feria’s Julian Dominguez won the 800, Jose Blanco OF Brownsville IDEA Frontier took the 400 with a time of 58.06 and Kenny Jenson of Kingsville King edged San Benito’s Jarrid Lopez in the 200. Lopez got revenge in the 100.

Raymondville’s Bryen Robles won the high jump, San Benito’s Ismael Lerma cruised in the pole vault, La Feria’s Joaquin Trevino easily outjumped the field in the long jump and San Isidro’s Jaime Mendoza impressively won the triple jump.

Los Fresnos’ Gerry Garcia won the shot put, and Hidalgo’s Dustin Earhart finished first in the discus.
