Rio Grande Valley girls Class 5A and 4A golfers wrapped up their seasons Thursday at their respective regional golf tournaments.
Sharyland High finished fifth in the Region IV-5A tournament. Carolina Tirado (166), Ximena Paz (173), Ivana Silva (181), Arianna Vela (180) and Brianna Vela (189) came into the day one stroke behind third place. All of the girls finished in the top 40.
Sharyland Pioneer came in seventh. Joslyn Lopez (157), Gabriela Astorga (192), Ritzy Dominguez (186), Victoria Sandoval (209) and Alyssa Cedillo (228) are on the team. Lopez finished tied for 10th and was only one stroke behind the last individual qualifying space.
Brownsville Veterans Memorial’s Rebecca Rodriguez (175) finished 28th, and Alli Ysaguirre (182) came in 33rd. Alexis Silva (219), Adriana Gerhart (243) and Isabella Venable (266) rounded out the ninth-place team.
Mission Veterans Memorial’s Kayla Rodriguez (190), Lillian Marroquin (200), Madison Davis (195), Amy Perez (235) and Victoria Olivarez (257) ended up 10th. Rodriguez, Marroquin and Davis cracked the top 50.
Brownsville Porter’s Yessenia Medellin (203), Atriana Anderson (206), Eris Hinojosa (224), Daniela Longoria (217) and Eva Hernandez (259) finished in 11th. Medellin, Anderson, Hinojosa and Longoria received first-team all-district honors this season.
La Joya Palmview’s Diana Vazquez (212), Belinda Cortina (203), Karyme Longoria (213), Susan Lopez (232) and Valeria Martinez (232) finished 12th.
McAllen High’s Samira Salinas (158) was in contention throughout the day for the final qualifying place, but came up two strokes short. Salinas finished the tournament in 13th place.
Brownsville Lopez’s Natali Ramirez (188) and McAllen Memorial’s Sofia Alaniz-Choy (194) also finished in the top 50. Rio Grande City’s Vanessa Garza (223) and Edcouch-Elsa’s Alexis Garcia (218) also competed as individuals.
At the Region IV-4A tournament, Hidalgo finished 13th. Daniela Najera (223), Priscilla Duarte (229), Jennifer Garcia (219) and Priscilla Hernandez (233) are on the team.
La Feria’s Savannah Mendez (231), Vanessa Gonzalez (257), Maria Pizano (241), Leanna Perez (264) and Jada Morales placed 15th.
Grulla’s Karla Lopez (212) and Rio Hondo’s Jalyssa Sauceda (237) competed as individuals.
