Speights, Memorial run wild over Hawks

HIDALGOHarlingen South and McAllen Memorial scrimmaged Friday night at Bill Pate Stadium in Hidalgo and both teams looked their respective parts.

If the season started tomorrow the McAllen Memorial Mustangs looked like a team ready to deliver.

Star running back Trevor Speights looked virtually unstoppable for Memorial, scoring on runs from 4, 5, 43, and 25 yards out. Quarterback Jonathan Sanchez looked about as dangerous as any could get, both as a mobile quarterback and as pocket passer towering above the opposition.

Harlingen South on the other hand looked like a team searching for an identity early on. With mild success rushing the ball early in the game Harlingen South took to the air and found what it was looking for and in the process found a small dent in the Mustangs’ nearly impenetrable defense.

After going down 4-1 during the control portion of the scrimmage, South’s first team offense scored on passing play’s of 40 and 50 yards out. Both behind the arm of quarterback Troy Jensan and receiver Darren Perez.

When the time came for the second team offense to take the field the Hawks once again went tot the air and scored two more touchdowns form quarterback Monico Prado to receivers Joseph Alonso and Adrian Cumpian.

Harlingen South begin the season at home against Weslaco next Friday.
