The UIL State Executive Committee granted Adam Solis’ appeal Wednesday to compete in varsity athletics at Valley View.

The junior transfer from Mission Veterans Memorial garnered a 3-1 vote approving the decision, just three weeks after the District 31-5A Executive Committee denied his eligibility. In an email, the UIL stated that it had granted the appeals for student-athletes from two schools, including Valley View. The press release did not mention Solis by name.

“After hearing testimony from all parties it was determined that the students did not change schools for athletic purposes,” the email states.

Valley View football coach Carlos Saenz confirmed that Solis was among those approved.

“It’s an exciting day for us,” Saenz said. “We’re excited for the young man. He’s a great student, he works hard. Everything worked out for the better.”

Solis transferred following the Patriots’ district-opening loss to Sharyland High on Oct. 2. He enrolled at Valley View shortly thereafter, and played the final four games on the junior varsity team.

Saenz said Solis played quarterback and threw 10 touchdown passes. He also said Solis intends to play basketball and run track for the Tigers.

At Mission Veterans, Solis was among the district’s top receivers. Despite playing in only five games, Solis finished the season third in receiving yards (583) to go with five scoring hauls. Solis was also utilized as a backup quarterback with the Patriots.

Had the UIL not approved Solis’ appeal Wednesday, he would have had to wait 365 days from the time of his transfer to become eligible to play in Valley View varsity athletics.
