Sharyland Pioneer’s Pedro Tovias named to UIL State All-Tournament Team

Sharyland Pioneer senior outfielder Pedro Tovias was named to the UIL Baseball State 5A All-Tournament Team on Sunday for his play for the Diamondbacks against Georgetown in the state semifinals on Thursday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, the UIL announced in a pres

Tovias, who played in left-field and right-field during the game against Georgetown, went 1 for 3 with one put out in the Diamondbacks 8-2 loss.

A four-year varsity member, Tovias capped off his career at Sharyland Pioneer with a .385 batting average, 24 RBIs and 31 runs during his senior season, helping lead the Diamondbacks to the first state tournament appearance for a Rio Grande Valley team since Harlingen South in 2007.

Tovias was also selected to play in the Baseball Coaches Association of the Rio Grande Valley All-Star Game, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the La Joya Baseball Complex.
