Sharyland received all six first-place votes to take No. 1 in RGVSports.com’s latest Top 10 poll. The Rattlers, who have not lost a regular season game since 2011, beat Brownsville Rivera 28-7 in Week 3 and play host to the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs on Friday.
McAllen Memorial remains at No. 2 after its 42-28 win over San Benito last week. The Mustangs improve to 2-1, and their only loss was to top-ranked Sharyland. They welcome the Edinburg North Cougars on Thursday at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Cougars, who lost to Edcouch-Elsa in Week 3, are the only team in last week’s Top 10 poll to fall out this week.
McAllen High is No. 3 after winning a thriller last week against Harlingen High. McHi is 2-1 and takes on Corpus Christi Carroll on Friday in McAllen. McHi dropped Harlingen to 0-2 on the season. The Cardinals, though, still managed to crack the Top 10 at No. 9. They did, however, fall from No. 5. Harlingen hopes to get in the win column with a victory over Weslaco High on Friday.
Port Isabel continues to be the only sub-Class 5A team in the Top 10. The Tarpons (3-0) are No. 4 and travel to take on Valley View on Friday.
Weslaco East (3-0) checks in at No. 5 after thumping Harlingen South in Week 3. They look to stay undefeated when they travel to take on La Joya High on Thursday.
Mission Veterans Memorial (2-1) and Edinburg Vela (3-0) are tied at No. 6. Both eased past their respective opponents in Week 3. This week, Veterans takes on PSJA North at home while Edinburg Vela plays PSJA Memorial at PSJA Stadium in Pharr.
Mercedes moved up two spots to No. 8. The 2-1 Tigers beat La Feria on Friday and are idle in Week 4.
At No. 10 is Los Fresnos. The Falcons rallied to beat PSJA North to improve to 2-1. They were not ranked in Week 3.
