Sharyland High’s Cepeda to run at UT Permian Basin

Sharyland High senior distance runner Kayla Cepeda signed her national letter of intent Wednesday, committing to continue her academic and athletic career at the UT Permian Basin, an NCAA Division II university that competes in the Lone Star Conference.

Cepeda, a four-year letter winner for the Rattlers’ cross-country team, will compete for the Falcons in both cross-country and track.

Cepeda finished her career with the Rattlers as a two-time regional qualifier, setting a personal best time of 20 minutes, 26.5 seconds as a freshman during the McNeil Invitational on Sept. 29. 2018 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, TX.

Cepeda was a part of the Rattlers’ 2021 state-qualifying cross-country team, finishing with a time of 23:13.8 at the UIL’s Class 5A state cross-country meet.
