The ninth edition of the Snakeskin Classic featuring the rival Sharyland High Rattlers and Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks brings added incentive this season as the District 16-5A DII championship is on the line.
The Diamondbacks (6-2, 3-0) and Rattlers (4-4, 3-0) are slated to square off in the RGVSports.com Game of the Week for Week 10 at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Richard Thompson Stadium in Mission.
The Rattlers hold a 5-3 head-to-head advantage in the series, including a 38-10 win during the 2021 season. Sharyland has outscored Pioneer 291-257 across the eight games.
This season, the Rattlers brushed off a 1-4 start to the season to win their last three games for a 3-0 district record.
The Diamondbacks enter the rivalry game as the No. 7-ranked team in the RGVSports.com Class 5A-6A poll. They’re riding a three-game winning streak of their own.
One will come to an end Friday night, however, as the winner will also take sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the District 16-5A DII standings entering the final week of the regular season.
