The San Benito Greyhounds will be looking for a new boys basketball coach.

On Thursday, Eddie Abrego resigned from the post, athletic director Dan Gomez confirmed Tuesday.

“We are going to let the process take its course, and we will post the position and go from there,” Gomez said. “(Abrego) is still a part of our school district and still a part of the Greyhound family.”

Abrego has coached at San Benito for more than 20 years, spending six years as an assistant and nine as the head coach. He led the ’Hounds to one playoff appearance in his time as head coach.

This past season, San Benito went 6-22 and finished with a 0-10 district record.

Abrego will pursue a job in administration.

“It was a tough decision. I resigned with the notion of pursuing administration,” Abrego said. It was a pleasant ride. I was able to guide a team to the playoffs, of the five times San Benito has made the playoffs. Our group that is returning, they are very young and talented, but it was my time to move on.”
