The San Benito Greyhounds made the biggest jump in this week’s RGVSports.com Top 10 poll, moving from a tie at No. 10 to No. 7 after beating Brownsville Veterans Memorial 67-57 on Saturday.

San Benito (5-2 overall) is now in the driver’s seat for the District 32-6A title and plays host to Brownsville Lopez on Friday.

Another big change from last week’s poll is the absence of Port Isabel. P.I. was ranked No. 5 but is no longer in the poll after a 21-14 loss to Rio Hondo. Edcouch-Elsa, which was tied at No. 10 with San Benito last week, is also out of the poll. The Yellowjackets lost to Mercedes in Week 8.

Los Fresnos, which has been in and out of the poll all season, returns at No. 10. The 5-2 Falcons defeated Harlingen High in Week 8.

Los Fresnos takes on Brownsville Rivera on Saturday at Sams Memorial Stadium.
Brownsville Veterans (5-2) remains at No. 9 despite its setback to San Benito. Brownsville Veterans takes on Harlingen High on Friday at Boggus Stadium.

Mission Veterans Memorial (5-2) slipped a spot to No. 8. The Patriots defeated Sharyland Pioneer 33-19 without their injured standout quarterback. They travel to take on Valley View on Friday.

Weslaco East (6-1) moved from No. 8 to No. 6. East was idle in Week 8 and has a home game Friday against PSJA North.

Mercedes (6-1) moved up one spot to No. 5 after its 22-19 win over E-E. The Tigers control their destiny for a District 32-5A championship and will take on PSJA High this week at PSJA Stadium in Pharr.

The top four teams remained unchanged. Sharyland (6-1) is No. 1. The Rattlers take on sister school Pioneer for the first time Friday at Richard Thompson Stadium in Mission.

McAllen Memorial (6-1) and McAllen High (5-2) are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. The McAllen ISD schools collide Friday night at

McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium in what may determine the District 30-6A champion.
