In the last three weeks, the San Benito Greyhounds have proved themselves by dismissing the three other playoff contenders in District 32-6A, defeating Los Fresnos, Harlingen and Brownsville Vets.

With just three games to go, the Greyhounds will have a favorable schedule and it starts tonight as they host the winless Brownsville Lopez Lobos at 7:30 p.m. at Bobby Morrow Stadium.

On paper, the match up features district 32-6A’s best offense in the Greyhounds, who are led by the tandem of running back Gabriel Vasquez and quarterback Cristian Sierra.

Both are among the top five rushers in the district and have rushed for 1,448 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Sierra has been on fire this season and leads the district in passing with 1,319 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last week, the Greyhounds posted 692 yards of total offense in a 67-57 shootout win over Brownsville Vets.

While the Greyhounds have looked strong, they have still turned the ball over.

The turnovers could be something that may give the Lobos a few opportunities.

The Lobos will need every chance they can get if they wish to keep pace with the volatile ‘Hounds.

Lopez is coming in averaging just 200 yards of offense and is near the bottom in total defense.

The Lobos are the only team without a district win and are coming off a 34-15 loss to the Hanna Eagles.

A Lopez upset win could make things interesting atop the standings.
