Trevor Speights moved into fifth place on the Texas high school football all-time career rushing list Thursday, picking up 226 yards and five touchdowns on 21 carries as McAllen Memorial cruised to a 63-10 win against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln.

Speights now has 8,605 rushing yards for his career.

Despite Speights’ statistical success, coach Bill Littleton said the Huskies did a good job of keeping him bottled up, forcing Memorial to go to some of their other options on offense.

“It just seemed like they had all 11 people on him,” Littleton said. “Everything else we tried was wide open, but they were on Trevor pretty good.”

Memorial racked up 149 passing yards on just eight attempts, including a pair of touchdowns to wideout DJ Johnson, who has nine scores on the season.

On defense, the Mustangs benefitted from strong play by Sam Hinojosa, Joey Delgado, Ricky Miner and Paul Zuniga.

McAllen Memorial improves to 7-0 on the season, including 3-0 in District 30-6A. Juarez-Lincoln drops to 1-5, 0-2 in district.
