Of note: Edinburg North returns just three starters from a team that went three rounds deep in the playoffs last season. Whitesides racked up 1,621 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2013, while Benitez ranked among the state leaders with 11 interceptions. First-year head coach Rene Saenz will have to work quickly to develop a team around them that can maintain North’s smash-mouth offense and suffocating defense.
