Rio Grande City’s Serina Ramirez put the exclamation point on her decorated four-year career, taking home the gold in the Class 5A girls shot put during the 2023 UIL track and field championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Ramirez, a four-time state qualifier, won the event with a mark of 48 feet, 7.75 inches. Midlothian’s Madeleine Fey finished second with a mark of 47-10.
The gold marks the first or Ramirez’s career and her second medal overall.
