PSJA Southwest head football coach and athletic coordinator Abel Estrada has been reassigned from his position, PSJA ISD confirmed Friday.
Estrada spent two seasons as the head football coach of the Javelinas, both of which ended with 1-9 records overall. Estrada took over the position after former head coach and athletic coordinator Mike Evans joined the coaching staff at Weslaco East days before the start of the 2021 season.
Estrada played college football at Texas A&M-Kingsville and began his coaching career at the middle school level during the 2000s before joining the staff at PSJA Southwest when the school opened in 2010.
The PSJA Southwest football program qualified for the playoffs for the first time in school history during a shortened 2020 campaign. The program began competing at the varsity level in 2012.
