FREDDY GONZALEZ | Valley Morning Star
Raymondville’s Jacob Posas might only be a junior, however the fullback and outside linebacker has had a long history of playing against the Lyford Bulldogs, including last year’s thumping by the Bulldogs.
The Valley Morning Star had a chance to catch up with Posas and get to know him before the annual Willacy County Cotton Bowl.

Q: Do you have any favorite memories from the annual Cotton Bowl against Lyford?
Posas: As a Bearkat, the game means a lot to me and my family because it is a big county rivalry and I plan on making my team and city proud. Last year was my first year loosing to Lyford since seventh grade and the Kats plan on getting revenge this year.
Q: Last year did not go anything like the team would have hoped for. What was the biggest lesson the teamed learned from that season?
Posas: We learned to play together. This year I feel that we are clearly more united as one and we all play for our team as a whole.
Q: For people who haven’t experienced a rivalry like the Cotton Bowl, what’s the best part leading up to the game?
Posas: The best part of leading up to the game is having confidence in my team and knowing that our coaching staff has done an amazing job. Also, seeing the fans and the community come out and support their teams is always a good factor.
Q: What the team’s motto heading into the game?
Posas: The team’s motto is “play hard, play smart, and dominate” because playing hard is never giving up and playing all four quarters like we have been doing the last two weeks.
Q: You play multiple positions on the team. What is the toughest part about that?
Posas: The toughest is conditioning because even when you are dead tired you have to fight until the fourth quarter ends.
