Posas and Zambrano leading the Bearkats

The Bearkats have had an impressive 3-1 start to the 2018 season and two big reasons why are not hard to spot on the field. Seniors Noe Zambrano and Jacob Posas have been sublime all season, respectively posting big numbers on each side of the ball and a big reason why the Bearkats are the favorites heading into tonight’s game.

The Valley Morning Star had a chance to catch up with the duo before today’s game against Kingsville King.

Q: How has the transition from LB to QB been like for you this season?

JACOB : The transition from LB to QB has been quite of a change. Last year being on the defense was all about stopping offenses from scoring, this year leading the offense and putting points on the board.

Q: What has been your top memory from your football career so far?

JACOB: This year’s cotton bowl was an amazing memory due to the fact that I had four rushing touchdowns along with one passing touchdown and ending my senior year cotton bowl with a win.

Q: Is there any significance to the number you wear?

JACOB: Well it was a number that I watched my favorite quarterback Drew Brees wear. When I made varsity my senior year the number was available and I chose it.

Q: What some your goals you have set for yourself this season?

JACOB: I have set a lot of goals for my self this season and on of the main ones was to lead this team to a district title, and do all I can to help my team make a good run in the playoffs.

Q: What are some of your game day preparations or rituals?

JACOB: A game day ritual I have always had is saying a prayer before the game. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love. I also ask God to watch over myself as well as my team and to keep us safe and protected.

Q: This is your senior season, what are you going to miss the most about your high school career?

NOE: The thing I’m going to miss is hanging out with my teammates and playing on Friday nights.

Q: What’s the team’s mentality been this week headed into the Kingsville game?

NOE: Team mentality towards Kingsville is to work together and follow the game plan.

Q: You’ve had plenty of positive moments in your athletic career, but which one stands out the most in your mind?

NOE: One of the moments that stands out is when coach Frank Cantu told me I was going to be on varsity my freshmen year.

Q: What is your favorite sports quote?

NOE: My favorite sports quote is “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing,” it’s my favorite quote because having the mentality of winning and having it in your mind is motivation to strive for more.

Q: Growing up did you always see yourself putting on the Bearkat jersey?

NOE: I’ve visioned myself wearing a Bearkat jersey since I was little
