If there is one name that Rio Hondo Bobcat fans have heard time and time again this season it’s Erik Pizarro. The senior wide receiver has remained a constant threat this year, dismantling defenses for 298 receiving yards on 15 receptions through his first two games.
As a junior last year, Pizarro also impressed with 43 receptions for 794 yards and 10 TDs, earning him a spot on the 16-4A DII first team offense.
The Valley Morning Star had a chance to catch up with the senior and ask him a few questions.

Q: It’s your senior season. What are you going to miss most about your time at Rio Hondo?
Pizarro: The most I’ll miss about Rio Hondo is the brotherhood on the team. We truly are brothers on and off the field.
Q: In your opinion what makes a team successful?
Pizarro: A team’s chemistry is what makes a team great and successful. It’s all about the bond you have as a team and it’ll show on the field.
Q: What has been the most exciting moment of your high school football career?
Pizarro: The most exciting moment for me is every Friday going out there and showing up for the community of Rio Hondo with my brothers under the lights.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals that you must do before a game?
Pizarro: My ritual before every game is taking a knee and bowing my head, praising the greater man above me.
Q: What’s the best advice you would give to the future athletes ready to represent the yellow and black?
Pizarro: The advice I’d have to give is to always work hard no matter what and when you feel like quitting, envision your dreams. Always be determined and don’t let anything stop you because only you can limit yourself.
Q: Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
Pizarro: “Work hard in silence; let your success be your noise.”
Q: You lead the area in receiving yardage. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Pizarro: I’ve always got my inspiration from my father. He’s always taught me to believe in myself and always have the confidence that you’re the best no matter what you put your mind to, and that you never lack the potential to become great unless you prevent yourself.
