AUSTIN – Sharyland Pioneer’s Evan Thompson became the third Valley athlete to medal during Day 2 of the UIL’s state track and field championships, coming in third in the 5A boys shot put.
Thompson sat in eighth going into his fifth attempt of the day, needing something big to vault him into the top-3. He delivered with a personal best mark of 55 feet, 5 inches to move into second.
Jacksonville’s Aiden Gay answered with a throw of 55-06.75 on his final attempt, stealing the silver from Thompson. Manvel’s Alex Williams won the event with a throw of 56-03.5 during his third attempt.
