Metro-area swimmers and divers complete state meet

The state swimming & diving meet concluded Saturday in Austin, marking the end of the season for five Metro-area competitors.

Freshman Lopez diver Thadey Diaz amassed 96 points during her final day, making her combined total for the meet 296 points, eight points shy of her personal record.

Junior swimmer Jonathan Ashford of Brownsville Veterans Memorial competed in the 100-meter freestyle and 100 breaststroke. He finished with times of 49.34 and 1:00.53, respectively. Both times were improvements over his preliminary round results.

Los Fresnos swimmer sophomore Ivana Besteiro swam in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. She completed the 50 freestyle in 25.68, a slight improvement over Friday’s time of 25.80. In the 100 freestyle, Besteiro finished in 57.63

Raul Garcia, a senior swimmer from Hanna, also competed as a diver. After scoring 164.8 points during the preliminary round Friday, he gathered 84.15 points Saturday to bring his total for the meet to 248.95.

Also representing Hanna was sophomore swimmer Maya Athena-Imperial. She swam in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle, finishing with times of 2:23.80 and 5:34.11, respectively.
