McAllen High’s Aaron Nixon will take part in the Major League Baseball All-Star Week festivities this weekend as the senior has been selected to play in the High School All-Star Game at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Nixon just wrapped up playing in the inaugural Major League Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline League in June and early July where the top 80 high school players from across the country were placed on four teams and competed against each other for three weeks in Florida. Nixon was placed on Team Jeter and spent time learning from MLB All-Stars like Ryan Howard, Andy Pettitte and even Derek Jeter himself.
On Thursday, that group of 80 who played in the MLB Prospect Development Pipeline League was cut down to 40.
Nixon’s play for Team Jeter earned him a spot on the High School All-Star Game 40-man roster, which will be held Saturday at Progressive Field, the home of the Cleveland Indians. Nixon will play for the American Team.
The group of 40 selected to play in the High School All-Star Game will also participate in the 18-and-Under National Team Trials in August in Los Angeles. That group will then be trimmed down to a 20-man roster that will head to Korea to compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-18 Baseball World Cup.
The High School All-Star Game will be streamed live on MLB.com at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
