The boys’ team won with a score of 415.5 while the girls’ compiled a total of 324 points.
On the boys’ side, the Bulldogs were followed by Brownsville St. Joseph (234) and Los Fresnos (230).
Los Fresnos (261) also took home third place on the girls’ side just ahead of second-place McAllen Memorial (291).
Hosts Harlingen South and Harlingen High, meanwhile, settled for fourth and 11th place, respectively, on the girls’ side, and seventh and eighth, respectively, on the boys’ side.
The McHi boys were paced Errol Lizzotte, who took home gold in both the 100-yard freestyle competition as well as the 100-yard backstroke. McHi also won the 200- and 400- yard freestyle relays.
The McHi girls, meanwhile, didn’t walk away with as many first-place finishes as their male counterparts, but they were consistent throughout and did take gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The swimmers were not the only stars at the meet this weekend as this marked the first major event to be held at Harlingen’s Aquatic Center, which opened in April.
Harlingen South head coach Rene Flores was pleased with the facilities.
“Our (school) district has built a top performance aquatic facility and our swimmers are very grateful for a facility that allows them to train for high-performance swimming,” Flores said. “Being our first swim meet, our pool has allowed districts throughout the Valley to see and test our pool. It is a top performance pool built for swimmers to perform at their best.
“Overall, we had 528 swimmers who enjoyed the facilities and the competition.”
