AUSTIN — McAllen Memorial’s Ayden Granados shone during his UIL state track meet debut, taking home the silver in the Class 5A boys 3,200-meter run Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Granados, a junior, held first place with two laps remaining. On the final turn of the race, Grapevine’s Walker St. John and Granados ran side-by-side, with St. John sneaking past the Mustangs’ distance runner for the win.
Granados finished in 9 minutes, 8.91 seconds. St. John won the event with a time of 9:07.78.
Granados is set to compete in the 1,600-meter run later today.
