McAllen Memorial stays atop Top 10 Poll

McAllen Memorial received six of seven first-place votes to remain RGVSports.com’s top-ranked team heading into Week 2.

The Mustangs, coming off an impressive 42-18 Week 1 win over Sharyland High, play at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edinburg Economedes. Edinburg Vela received the other first-place vote and stays in place at No. 2 in this week’s poll. The SaberCats host Harlingen South on Friday night.

Movement in this week’s poll was moderate. Los Fresnos moved up a spot to No. 3 and Sharyland High dropped two spots to No. 5. Harlingen High, which had a bye in Week 1, is at No. 4.

The Mid-Valley is well-represented in the middle of the pack at No. 6 and No. 7 with Weslaco High and Weslaco East, respectively. The Wildcats jumped up three spots from No. 10.

La Joya Palmview moved up a spot to No. 8, and McAllen High dropped two spots to No. 9. Brownsville Veterans Memorial makes its debut in this season’s Top 10, finishing at No. 10.

Other teams receiving votes were PSJA North, which finished three points from placing, Mission Veterans Memorial, Edcouch-Elsa and Donna High. The Redskins dropped out after being ranked No. 6 in the preseason poll.
