McAllen High blown out by Eagle Pass in bi-district playoffs

EAGLE PASS — The McAllen High Bulldogs couldn’t get their offense on track while the defense gave up six long plays for touchdowns in a 52-21 loss during a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game Friday in Eagle Pass.

Eagle Pass raced out to a 42-0 lead, repeatedly burning the McHi coverage for deep scores. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs offense punted five times in the first half and could not convert two fourth downs. McAllen High did not cross midfield until the final play of the first half.

The Bulldogs, who at 4-7 finish with a losing record for the third straight season, tacked on a few scores late, including two from Gunnar Henderson. Henderson finished with three catches for 31, while Kristian Soliz had six catches for 98 yards and a TD. Quarterback Aaron Nixon completed 11 of 26 passes for 154 yards and the three touchdowns, while Roy Gutierrez paced the attack with 28 carries for 155 yards on the ground.

For the game, McHi was outgained 442-309, including a decided 307-79 margin during the first half.
