HARLINGEN — Just when the Los Fresnos Falcons thought they had the win in the bag, Harlingen South’s Jose Lerma scored two goals in the final three minutes of the contest to send the game into overtime.

Unfortunately for South, Jaime Casanova found the winner for the Falcons in second overtime to come away with a 3-2 victory over the Hawks on Friday evening at Boggus Stadium.

The win improved the Falcons to 6-3 with 18 points to stand firm in third place in District 32-6A. With the loss, Harlingen South dropped to 3-6.

“The boys played a very composed game and played with a lot of poise,” Los Fresnos head coach Javier Navarrete. “They grew as a team to-night and built some well deserved momentum going into Tuesday’s game.”

Carlos Vegenas put the Falcons on the board first after he got behind a cross from Benjamin Ramirez. While Casanova scored the winner from 18 yards out in OT, Casanova got on the board first by scoring the Falcons’ second goal off the night after he got off a shot from Luis Rocha.
