Los Fresnos looks impressive in dominating 3-0 win over San Benito

With the victory, the Lady Falcons improved to 32-8 overall and stayed perfect in league play at 9-0.

Los Fresnos head coach Becky Woods admitted after the match that keeping her team focused after such dominating wins is difficult.

“It’s extremely hard,” she said. “We work hard at practice and I tell them that when they come out, they have to play at the highest level they can because that’s what it’s going to take when we hit the playoffs.

“We can’t let up no matter who we play because I think it’s important that we finish the district schedule undefeated in order to give us that winning edge heading into the postseason. But we can’t really look that far ahead yet. We still have games left to play and we’ll take them one at a time, playing hard all the way.”

With an intimidating, hard-hitting, well-balanced and, not to mention, exceptionally tall lineup, the Lady Falcons simply overpowered the Lady ’Hounds from the start.

Game 1 of the match concluded so quickly that some fans were still filing into the gymnasium as Game 2 got underway.

In the second set, the Lady ’Hounds battled mightily, but still couldn’t overcome the Lady Falcons’ firepower, which was led by Jackie Kingsbury, Joseline Caraveo, Sam Ibarra and Cassie Parra, who finished with 13, 14, 10 and 12 kills respectively.

In the third and final game, the Lady Falcons continued their onslaught and the Lady Greyhounds simply had no way to answer as they were dismissed 25-11.

Despite the loss, which was their second in a row, the Lady Greyhounds (8-13, 4-5) remain in playoff contention and head coach Ruby Medina said she wanted to make sure her team remained upbeat.

“They just have to keep on working hard and due to whatever happened we can’t focus on that because we have to keep on playing as a team, and play as hard as they can go,” she said.
