Sharyland Pioneer clinched the No. 2 seed in District 16-5A DII in a convincing 27-7 win against Roma last week. The driving force behind the Diamondbacks’ offense have been their quarterbacks: senior Jacob Rosales and sophomore Eddie Marburger.

Following the victory over the Gladiators, Rosales and Marburger crossed a plateau no duo of quarterbacks have done in the Valley this season: reach 1,000 passing yards. Rosales sits at 1,200 yards passing while Marburger’s 86 passing yards vs. Roma pushed his season total to 1,032.

“Both of our kids have fed off each other all year,” Sharyland Pioneer coach Tommy Lee said. “We might be the only team with two 1,000-yard passers. Hopefully, when it’s all said and done, both will be over 1,500 yards.”

The Diamondbacks (6-3, 4-1) will end the year at Edcouch-Elsa on Friday night.

“We’re going to approach just like we would any other game,” Lee said. “Edcouch is a good football team, and I’m sure they want to handle their last game the right way. They’re going to play all their guys and we’re going to play all our guys. It’ll give us a good preview for the playoffs. If we play Port Lavaca Calhoun in the first round, they play a lot of tight sets like Edcouch does.”
