La Villa’s Kaycei Salazar kicked off Day 2 of the 2023 UIL State track and field championships with a bang for the RGV, taking home the silver during the Class 2A 3,200-meter run at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Salazar finished in second with an unofficial time of 11 minutes, 37.09 seconds. Windhurst’s Cameron Belcher finished in 11:30.91 unofficially for first.
The medal marks the first of her career for Salazar. She is set to run again tonight in the Class 2A girls 1,600m run.
