La Feria rips Raymondville 47-14 in chippy debut

Under the bright lights at Lions Stadium, La Feria’s Brandon Perez and Jonathan Lejia stole the show as the two connected for four touchdowns on the night.

Lejia passed for 218 yards with Perez receiving 158 of them.

However, rivalries aren’t without emotion as a total of five players were ejected during the game.

The Bearkats had four players ejected while the Lions had one.

Nevertheless, La Feria head coach Oscar Salinas was happy about the victory.

“Tonight was a big win for us because Raymondville has had our number here in the past,” he said. “So to come out and play a really good Raymondville team and play as well as we did is a big plus for us.”

The Lions struck first as Lejia and Perez connected on their first touchdown of the evening from 3 yards out to put La Feria up 7-0.

However, Raymondville responded with a 5-yard TD of its own to even the contest at 7-7 with 2:27 remaining in the first quarter. Bearkats quarterback Daniel Guiterrez found a hole and busted threw the line for the score.

But the Lions offense began to find itself and rapidly scored another on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Lejia to Perez for their second of the night with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

With momentum on their side and a 14-7 lead, the pair connected on 57-yard TD pass to open the lead to 21-7 with 7:53 left in the second period.

With 4:45 remaining in the second the Bearkats added their final touchdown of the night.

“Our offense played really good today and that’s where our experience is,” said Salinas. “We were in great shape tonight and the kids came out and played really hard so I’m impressed with the way we played tonight, but we have a long season still and we have to get better.”
