After a lengthy weather delay Saturday, the Jubilee Brownsville girls soccer team finished as the state runner-up at the Texas Charter Schools Academic & Athletic League state tournament in Georgetown.

The Lady Titans lost their state final 2-0 to KIPP San Antonio University Prep at Birkelbach Field, site of the UIL state tournament in soccer later this month.

The Lady Titans closed their season with a 16-2-1 record, as 2019 marked the third year of the program.

It was Jubilee’s first appearance at state in soccer.

“We had a great year,” Jubilee coach Cesar Arizmendi said. “The girls played together as a whole, and that enabled us to get to the championship.

“We are a young team that will have great experience for the next couple of years,” he added. “KIPP San Antonio was the better team today, and congrats to them.”

To qualify for the state tournament, Jubilee won three games in the playoffs.

The Lady Titans reached the state final by rallying to defeat Houston Harmony School of Advancement 3-1 in the semifinals Friday.

Against Harmony, Jubilee was down 1-0 and evened the match at 1 on a 25-yard shot by Erika Parker, making the score 1-1 at intermission.

During the second half, a header by Jubilee’s Stephanie Aguilar put the Lady Titans ahead for good, 2-1. Another goal by Parker accounted for the final score of 3-1.

KIPP San Antonio defeated IL Texas Garland 2-1 in the semifinals Friday to reach Saturday’s title match.
