Hernandez emerging as top target

The Rio Hondo Bobcats are off to an impressive 5-0 start to the 2018 season and wide receiver Frank Hernandez is just one of the many reasons why.

This season, the senior has hauled in 38 receptions for 705 yards and 12 touchdowns, surpassing last years benchmark of 560 yards.

The Valley Morning Valley had a chance to sit down with Hernandez before the team’s big game against La Feria.

Q: You have had a great season so far, what has been your motivation?

FRANK: My motivation has been my teammates. It’s all a brotherhood, when I see a brother down, it motivates me to push harder for him.

Q: What has been this week message headed into the La Feria game?

FRANK: I believe that it’s just another game. If we execute, and finish off the week strong during practice, we should end up with a win.

Q: You’ve had plenty of positive moments in your athletic career, but which one stands out the most in your mind?

FRANK: The game against Juarez Lincoln stands out the most in my mind because I felt like I was a big contribution to winning that game. It was also my first game ever scoring 3 touchdowns.

Q: What is your favorite sports quote?

FRANK: My favorite sports quote is “Perfection is being able to look your friend in the eye and know you did everything you could not to let them down,” because I know that our team wouldn’t be where we’re at right now if it wasn’t for each one of us working hard.

Q: What some your goals you have set for yourself this season?

FRANK: Some of the goals I have set are, having the best receiving stats in the valley, and at least competing to be in the top ten in Texas receiving stats.

Q: What are some of your game day preparations or rituals?

FRANK: I like to wake up early, and take long showers. And right before every game, you can find me in the back of the run-though helmet saying a prayer.

Q: If you could have dinner with anybody who would it be and why?

FRANK: I would like to have dinner with Odell Beckham Jr. because he is my favorite receiver and I would like to ask him for some pointers.

Q: What’s the best advice you would give to the future athletes ready to put on the black and yellow?

FRANK: I would tell them to hit it hard everyday. It takes a lot to be a varsity player. It’s not only about showing out on game days. It’s about grinding even when you don’t have a game day or even in the off-season.

Q: If you had a time machine and could go any where for 20 minutes would you go to the future or to the past?

FRANK: I would go to the future because I would like to see the person I am, what I ended up being in my life. I would want to see how successful I end up.
