Despite some injuries, the Lady Greyhounds (6-4) have been able to hold on to the fourth spot in District 32-6A.
“We’ve been able to hold on to the fourth spot by going back to playing ball like we did earlier in the season and being very selective with our shooting, being very careful with how we matchup and scheme against our opponents,” said San Benito head coach Able Moreno II.
“Luckily for us, Emilee Barraza will be returning to the lineup tomorrow. We will still be without Haley Lopez, who is done for the season. However we feel that we are going to have a better rotation at the guard position, and some of our players who came in later in the season like Miranda Vallejo and Alexis Cavazos are barely coming into their own and will help us get over the hump and get into the playoffs.”
Meanwhile, the District 32-6A girls basketball playoff picture is starting to shape up.
Weslaco High sits at number one with a 9-1 record after defeating Harlingen High 58-32 on Tuesday evening with Brownsville Rivera and Harlingen South up next.
The loss dropped the Lady Cardinals to 8-2, tied for second place alongside the Harlingen South Lady Hawks.
The Lady Hawks stayed one game behind the Lady Panthers after handily defeating Brownsville Hanna 61-44 earlier this week. However, tonight’s contest against the San Benito Lady Greyhounds will not be an easy game. In their first encounter Harlingen South eked out a close 39-38 victory over the Lady ’Hounds.
Finally, the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons are just one game behind the Lady Hounds. At 5-5, the Lady Falcons are vying for the fourth spot with Harlingen and Weslaco still remaining on the schedule.
