LOS FRESNOS — Los Fresnos accomplished its goal against Hanna.

The Falcons’ Rene Ortega had three touchdown passes — two to Pete Perez — and ran for another score as Los Fresnos earned a share of the District 32-6A title with a 46-13 win over Hanna on Friday at Leo Aguilar Stadium.

Los Fresnos took a 14-point lead after the first quarter and cruised to the win as Isaiah Zepeda, Fabian Rodriguez and Isaac Moreno, who played in his first game after suffering a knee injury before the season started, all scored rushing touchdowns, and Mark Rodriguez caught the other touchdown pass from Ortega.

“It was a good game, the boys came out and did well,” Los Fresnos coach Clint Finley said. “We started a little slow, but once we got started it took off, we got rolling on offense.”

Hanna, which has been banged up in recent weeks, didn’t get its offense going, and the Falcons took advantage.

“Early on we were trying to do some things and it didn’t happen, and one thing led to another,” Hanna coach Rene Medrano said. “Before you know it, it’s out of our hands. We played hard, that’s all that I can ask for. We played hard with the personnel we had for being as banged up as we were. I think our kids came to play, and they did just that.”

Jaime Gonzalez and Ramon Delgado each scored a touchdown for the Eagles during the loss.

The Falcons earned a share of the district title and some momentum as they begin the playoffs with a Class 6A Division I bi-district game at Weslaco High at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13.

“It was huge,” Finley said. “We wanted to finish strong, and that leads to a fast start when you get into the playoffs … I’m happy.

“It feels great (to win a share of the district title). The kids work tremendously hard. I couldn’t be any more proud of this football team than any team I’ve ever coached.”
