Edinburg Vela quarterback Fabian Pedraza has been recognized as the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week for his performance in Week 7.
The senior signal caller led the SaberCats to a 49-14 win over then-undefeated Sharyland Pioneer on Thursday. Pedraza completed 21 of 28 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 46 yards on six carries, scoring once on a 16-yard run.
Heading into Week 8, Pedraza leads District 31-5A in throwing percentage (69.2) and is second in passing attempts (90), completions (130), yards (1,276) and touchdowns (16).
Pedraza has helped lead Edinburg Vela (7-0, 3-0) to a No. 2 ranking every week this season in the RGVSports.com top 10 poll.
The senior is one of only two Valley football players this season to win the award, and the first in Class 5A.
McAllen Memorial running back Trevor Speights earned the distinction earlier this year in the 6A category.
