East Valley Powerlifting: Girls set to compete at state

HARLINGEN — East Valley girls powerlifters will compete the next few days at the state meet in Corpus Christi.

East Valley 6A competitors will begin the tournament this morning.

Los Fresnos has a massive team competing at state. Clarissa Rodriguez, Alondra Tefertiller, Kambryn Salinas, Tyler Martin, Mikayli Arellano, Hailey Martin and Miranda Escamilla make up the lighter weight classes.

Anguela Carrizales, Annette Cardenas, Carol Longoria, Janelle Aleman, Krystina Infante, Saida Arreola, Karina Medina and Alyssa Brock round out the rest of the Lady Falcons’ team.

San Benito will send Angelina Zuniga, Julissa Nino and Jaden Ybarra. Brownsville Hanna’s Mia De Los Santos, Aliyah Castillo and Elsa Raya comprise the Lady Eagles’ squad.

Harlingen South’s Daniela Maximo and Harlingen High’s Julie Valdez represent the city of Harlingen.

The 5A portion of the meet will take place Saturday, the final day of the meet.

Brownsville Lopez will send Destiny Torres, Regina Botello and Marleen Salazar. Brownsville Veterans Memorial’s Ollie Valdez and Nicole Cortez also will be lifting in Corpus Christi.

Brownsville Pace’s Daniella De La Torre, Andrea Rizo and Kimberly Luna are joined by Brownsville Porter’s Allyson Gill.

Class 4A athletes will hit the weights Friday.

La Feria’s Eneece Avila, Emily Avila, Galilea Rodriguez, Zeena Flores and Alyssa Ramirez will represent the Lionettes. Rio Hondo’s Serena Quinones, Abigail Castellanos and Lizette Zuniga will compete, too.

Santa Rosa’s Leslie Flores will compete Thursday with the other athletes from Class 3A.
