East Valley boys basketball teams celebrated their season with the release of their respected all-district awards and teams.
Harlingen High’s Ryan Sanchez claimed District 32-6A’s offensive player of the year award. Senior Jeremiah Rivera of Harlingen South shared defensive player of the year with Brownsville Hanna senior Charles Thirlwall, and Harlingen High freshman Luis Rodriguez is the newcomer of the year.
Harlingen South’s Steven Ortegon and Ddeen Badiru, Los Fresnos’ JJ Salazar, Hanna’s Isiah Talamantez, San Benito’s Jermain Corbin, Rivera’s Ramsey Rocha and Harlingen High’s Johnathan Salinas make up the all-district team.
Brownsville Pace senior Cristian Guajardo is the District 32-5A MVP, and Brownsville Lopez junior Marco Coello is the offensive player of the year. Vikings coach Jose Ramirez was awarded coach of the year.
Pace’s Elias Fortaneli and Alex Agado join the first team, and senior Benny Villarreal is on the second team. Brownsville Veterans Memorial’s Gerrardo Castaneda, Rodrigo Castaneda and Kenny Davis also join the second team, as well as Lopez’s Jacob Cortinas.
Brownsville St. Joseph’s Gerry Martinez is the MVP of TAPPS 5A District 4, and senior Josh Cisneros is the defensive player of the year. Martinez and Cisneros combine with Luigi Cristiano, Bernie Garza and Martin Tapia for first team all-district honors.
Raymondville senior Jayson Cantu shares the District 32-4A MVP award with Port Isabel’s Daniel Zamarron. The Bearkats’ Rick Tamez is coach of the year.
Rio Hondo’s Ethan Jeradiah is the offensive player of the year. Raymondville’s Jayden Garza and Port Isabel’s Gilbert Medina split the defensive player of the year honor.
Port Isabel’s Kaiden Martinez and Jefferey Smith, Raymondville’s Ethan Tagle and Joshua Valdez, and Rio Hondo’s Zechariah Rios and Johnathan Amaya are first team all-district.
Santa Rosa coach Rene Duque is the coach of the year for District 32-3A. Santa Rosa’s David Bazaldua and C.J. Olivarez shared the MVP. Brownsville Jubilee’s Ethan Vasquez is the offensive player of the year.
Brownsville IDEA Frontier’s Arturo Mendez and Santa Rosa’s Adrian Zamora are the defensive players of the year. Brownsville Jubilee’s Jose Fernandez and Brownsville Harmony’s Aidan Garza split the newcomer of the year award.
District 32-3A first-team all-district nods include Brownsville IDEA Riverview’s Albert Carrizales, Jubilee’s Dante Velez, Frontier’s Rodolfo Rosas and Victor Mendez, Harmony’s Gael Garza and Santa Rosa’s Derreck Guerra.
In District 31-3A, Lyford’s Justin Vela and Jordan De Luna received first-team nods.
Santa Maria’s Chris Ibarra is the offensive player of the year for District 32-2A, junior Juan Morales is the defensive player of the year and Johnny Cipriano received coach of the year honors.
Santa Maria seniors Samuel Rivera and Nehemiah Gutierez received first-team all-district nods.
In District 32-1A, San Perlita’s senior Ely Terry is the Co-MVP, senior Max Graciani is the defensive player of the year and freshman Julian Johnson is the newcomer of the year. Senior Diego Ortiz, senior Eloy Zamorano and junior Ethan Romero claim first-team spots.
