Donna North boys, Econ girls dominant in meets

The Donna North boys’ cross-country team had four top 10 individual finishers at Donna ISD Cross-Country Invitational on Saturday. Edinburg Economedes’ girls were just as dominant at the Edinburg High Cross-Country Invitational, placing four runners in the top 10.

In the boys division, McAllen Memorial won, anchored by Ayden Granados (16:23.8), who finished second behind PSJA North’s Hector Solis (15:56.8). Edinburg North’s Alexis Rodriguez (16:31.3) placed third.

McAllen Memorial had one other top-10 runner in Sebastian Salinas (16:50.9), who came in fifth.

McAllen High’s boys, the runner-up team, had Joe Rios (17:09.5) and Michael Gower (17:09.7) finish seventh and eighth, respectively.

The third-place team, La Feria, was led by three top-10 runners in Julian Dominguez (17:00.9), Evan Torres (17:13.3) and Joshua Marquez (17:24.1), who finished fourth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

Edinburg Economedes’ girls, however, boasted the most top 10 finishers in either division at the meet to capture the girls title Saturday.

The Jaguars’ Maddison Surita (19:39.1) led that pack, finishing second behind McAllen High’s Lucille Galligan (19:28.7). Edinburg High’s Mia Guillen (19:57.6) came in third.

Economedes’ Marbella Marques (20:32.2), Dianette Garcia (20:36.7) and Francesca Alvarado (20:40.2) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, as the Jaguars (1:43:26.9) cruised past second-place McAllen High (1:47:52.6) and third-place Edinburg High (1:48:19.7).

McAllen Memorial (1:53.03.0) came in fourth, and Edinburg Vela (1:59:08.0) fifth.

DONNA ISD CROSS-COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

Donna North hoisted the boys crown, clocking in at a combined 1:25.56.5. It outpaced McAllen Rowe (1:27.04.4), the runner-up team, and third-place Edcouch-Elsa (1:30:34.2).

Donna North had four top-10 finishers in Marc Corpus (16:55.4), Benjamin Rubio (17:01.4), Nathaniel Rubio (17:09.0) and Jose Torres (17.11.4), who placed fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Donna High’s Kevin Hernandez was the overall boys winner, clocking in at 16:18.0, comfortably ahead of McAllen Rowe’s Julius Contreras (16:41.6) and teammate Kevin Cardenas (16:51.9).

Weslaco East captured the girls crown (1:52:08.6), edging second-place Brownsville Veterans (1:52:38.6) and third-place Edcouch-Elsa (1:53:22.0).

Weslaco East had three runners finish in the top 10 in Natalie Bazan (21:58.1), Raven Ozuna (22:01.0) and Stephanie Men-doza (22:03.9), who finished sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

Brownsville Veterans also had three top-10 finishers. Naia Gracia (20:07.9) placed second, Loren Averyt (22:03.4) was third and Bianca Mascoro (22:30.6) came in fourth.

Edcouch-Elsa’s Rebecca Davila (19:51.8) finished first in the girls’ division. Teammate Miranda Guerrero (20:54.7) came in third.
