Donna High rolls to win over Pace

STAFF REPORTS

DONNA — The Pace defense struggled to contain the Donna High offense, and again the Vikings’ offense failed to make much noise during a 42-7 loss to the Redskins in a District 32-5A game Friday at Bennie LaPrade Stadium.

“Donna (High) is good, their offensive line, their two backs, they were good,” Pace coach William Deen said. “We just struggled on defense.”

The Redskins ran the ball often and led 28-0 at halftime.

Pace is dealing with multiple injuries and has had to move players into different positions and sometimes a different side of the ball. The Vikings had some moments of promise but didn’t maintain it throughout the entire game.

The lone bright spot for the Pace offense came on a 77-yard run for a touchdown by Luis Rodriguez during the second half.

“We’d get the offense going and we’d sputter, we couldn’t gain much ground,” Deen said. “I though the offense played a little better, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Redskins scored a pair of touchdowns after the break to seal the district win.

Deen saw a lot of positives from his offense that he hopes will carry forward.

“Offensively we had some good things, we have some positive things to work on,” he said. “So we’re really happy about that.”
