The regular season is winding down, bringing with it some important matchups to determine playoff seeding in District 32-6A.

Brownsville Hanna (3-0, 3-0) and Harlingen High (5-0, 3-0) have clinched the district’s southeast and northwest zone titles, respectively. They’ll face off for the 32-6A championship and No. 1 playoff seed at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Sams Memorial Stadium.

The Harlingen High Cardinals were scheduled to play Brownsville Rivera at 7 p.m. today at Boggus Stadium, but the game was canceled Wednesday and will not be made up. The Hanna Golden Eagles will face Donna North (0-4, 0-3) at 2 p.m. today at Sams Memorial Stadium.

The San Benito Greyhounds (2-2, 2-1) are the No. 2 team in the southeast zone and will face the No. 3 northwest zone team, the Harlingen South Hawks (1-3, 1-2), at 1 p.m. today at Bobby Morrow Stadium. The winner will advance to the playoffs.

Third-place southeast finisher Los Fresnos (2-2, 1-2) will battle Weslaco High (2-1, 2-1), the second-place team in the northwest zone, at 1 p.m. today at Bobby Lackey Stadium. The winning team will head to the playoffs.

Both play-in games were already on the team’s schedules, and with the zone standings locked in, the stakes were raised for each contest.

Three of the four East Valley District 16-5A Division I teams will be in action Saturday at Sams Memorial Stadium. Brownsville Lopez (1-3, 0-3) will kick things off with an East Zone game against Weslaco East (3-0, 3-0) at 11 a.m. Brownsville Veterans Memorial (2-3, 1-2) and Brownsville Pace (2-1, 2-1) will face off at 4 p.m. Brownsville Porter (3-2, 2-2) has a bye.

The Brownsville St. Joseph Bloodhounds (4-4, 3-4) have a rematch against district foe Austin Regents (6-0) in the second round of the TAPPS Division II playoffs at 6 p.m. today in Austin. The Bloodhounds are riding high after defeating Houston Lutheran South 56-48 in a wild first-round game in which junior quarterback Luigi Cristiano threw for 508 yards and five touchdowns. Austin Regents hasn’t played a game since Oct. 30, because its final district game was canceled and it received a first-round playoff bye as a district champion.
