De La Garza to play in TABC All-Star Game

PSJA North senior guard Elijah De La Garza will take the court along with the best high school boys basketball players Texas has to offer when he plays in the 2021 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Star Game on Friday in San Antonio.

De La Garza is the lone Rio Grande Valley boys basketball player to earn the honor. He’ll suit up for the Large School Boys Lime Team which will be coached by Steve Slyestine of San Antonio Clark.

The Large School Boys All-Star Game is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. at Northside ISD’s Taylor Fieldhouse in San Antonio.

“It feels amazing to be recognized as one of the top players in the state. I have put in countless hours of work with my dad, so to be selected for this all-star game is a blessing,” De La Garza said.

As a senior, the PSJA North guard averaged a career-high 26.2 points this season while also posting 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He was named District 30-6A’s Most Valuable Player for his play this season, in addition to earning The Monitor’s 2020-21 All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year award.

Over the course of his four-year high school hoops career, De La Garza totaled 2,444 points with an average of 19.9 per game.

De La Garza recently signed a national letter of intent to continue his college basketball and academic career at Trinity in San Antonio upon graduation.
