Crusaders advance with first-round win

The Brownsville First Baptist boys basketball is moving ahead in the TAPPS District 6-1A playoffs. The Crusaders defeated Selma River City Believers Academy 61-37 in the first round of the Saturday.

First Baptist was paced by Rodolfo Cabido, who had 22 points. Jorge Bejar and Daniel Ybarra were the Crusaders’ second- and third-leading scorers with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

“We came out strong and played as a team,” First Baptist coach George Solis said. “We are trying to peak at just the right moment. Our guys are playing really well right now.”

First Baptist finished the regular season 14-13, 6-6 in district.

The Crusaders will next play Feb. 27 against Northeast Christian Academy in Kingwood at a time that has yet to be determined.
