The Santa Rosa Warriors rolled to a 68-0 victory over the Monte Alto Blue Devils in Week 6.

The game was the fifth consecutive contest in which Mesa has rushed for more that 100 yards this season. The senior rushed for 137 yards against La Villa, 176 against Progreso, 167 against Odem and 132 against Hebbronville.

In total this season, Mesa has rushed for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns on 111 carries.

RIO HONDO AT RAYMONDVILLE

The Rio Hondo Bobcats and the Raymondville Bearkats start the District 16-4A Division II schedule with a tantalizing matchup Friday.

The Bearkats enter the district season with a record of 5-1 and are on a five-game win streak. Offensively, Raymondville has imposed its running game on non-district opponents, rushing for an impressive 1,809 yards and passing for another 787 yards.

The Bobcats’ offense has been nothing short of lights-out this year, amassing 1,886 yards and 20 touchdowns through its passing game and running for another 1,155 yards.

Defensively, the teams enter game with stingy defensive units. Raymondville has allowed an average of 204 yards per game; the Bobcats have allowed an average of 265 yards per game.

COMING IN HOT

After an 0-2 start, the Port Isabel Tarpons have turned it around the past few weeks and are coming into this week’s District 16-4A Division II opener at Progreso with plenty of momentum.

Port Isabel’s 48-21 win against Grulla was its third in the past four games, with the only hiccup in that span a 21-14 loss Sept. 21 at La Feria.

The Tarpons’ defense has allowed 10.25 points per game during its last four contests.

The offensive side of the ball is where the Tarpons have come alive as of late, averaging 33 points per game during their past four outings.

Quarterback Cesar Aguilera has been a big part of the surge, as he has rushed for 502 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns on 51 carries this season.

Aguilera also has passed for 378 yards and two more scores.

Behind him, running back Brayan Medina leads the team in rushing with 894 yards and six touchdowns.
