BREAKING: Donna’s Hernandez advances to state championship match

Donna High’s Precious Hernandez is one win away from a wrestling state championship.

The Donna senior, with a 24-1 record, defeated Northwestern’s Autumn Bradley (42-9) with a 4-1 decision in the semifinals of the Girls Class 5A 215-pound division to advance to the final bout. She will face Corpus Christi Ray’s Mia Epps-Hicks (47-10) in the championship later today. Epps-Hicks finished third in the Region IV tournament, the same region that Hernandez won, defeating Sharyland Pioneer’s Camile Flores in the finals.

The championship round begins at 3:45 p.m. at the Berry Center in Cypress. Hernandez’s match will be the final match of the day.

Hernandez would be the first Rio Grande Valley state wrestling champion since 2016, the third overall female champ from the Valley and first heavyweight state champion.
