McAllen High had a strong performance on both sides of the ball to defeat Eagle Pass 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 in their Class 6A bi-district match at Laredo Martin.
“We’re happy, we’re excited that we came out with the ‘W’,” Lady Bulldogs coach Paula Dodge said. “The girls played well both offensively and defensively, so we’re just looking forward to the next match.”
That next match will be against Edinburg High, with the details to be announced later in the week.
Lexy Giusti had 12 kills, 18 assists and two aces. Dominique Peña had seven kills. Julia Monday had 10 kills and five aces.
“Julia Monday played really well,” Dodge said
Hanna Bishop and Sydney Pemelton each had two blocks, with Monday and Pena adding one each.
“We had a strong blocking night,” Dodge said. “We did a good job.”
LOS FRESNOS 3, WESLACO HIGH 0: At Los Fresnos, the Lady Panthers’ season ended with a 25-13, 15-16, 15-14 loss.
Weslaco High (12-23), which needed a play-in match to qualify for the postseason, snapped a five-year playoff drought with in coach Anissa Garcia’s first year.
“I’m so proud of them,” Garcia said. “I’m so proud of what we did this year especially with our five-year drought. We had high expectations to make the playoffs and we did it, we’re here.
LAREDO UNITED 3, MISSION HIGH 0: At Roma, the Lady Eagles’ season came to an end with a 25-9, 25-9, 25-22 loss.
Mission High (17-20), which qualified for the playoff after a one-year absence, entered as the fourth seed from District 30-6A.
McALLEN MEMORIAL 3, DEL RIO 0: At Laredo, the Lady Mustangs won 25-23, 25-18, 25-11 to improve to 34-9.
Memorial, the third seed in 30-6A, will face 32-6A co-champion Los Fresnos in the next round.
EDINBURG NORTH 3, HARLINGEN HIGH 1: At Harlingen, the visiting Lady Cougars stormed back to knock off Harlingen High 12-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19.
BROWNSVILLE VETERANS 3, WESLACO EAST 0: At Weslaco, the Wildcats lost to the visiting 32-6A co-champion Lady Chargers 25-13, 25-14, 25-14.
East, which was the third seed in 31-6A, season ends at 17-20.
CLASS 4A
ROCKPORT-FULTON 3, GRULLA 0: At San Diego, Grulla’s first trip to the postseason ended with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-17 bi-district defeat.
SINTON 3, LA FERIA 1: At Bishop, La Feria closed the year with a 27-13 record following a 25-14, 24-26, 25-18, 25-19 loss.
The Lionettes closed out District 32-4A in a three-way tie for first place.
PORT ISABEL 3, BEEVILLE 0: At Monte Alto, the Lady Tarpons cruised to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 victory.
Port Isabel (27-10) will face Boerne in the next round.

LYFORD 3, FALFURRIAS 0: At Falfurrias, the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 16-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 victory to set up an area-round match against George West.
KINGSVILLE SANTA GERTRUDIS 3, SANTA ROSA 0: At Kingsville, the Lady Warriors’ struggled in their opening-round playoff match, losing 25-19, 25-9, 25-11.
BANQUETE 3, MONTE ALTO 1: At Hebbronville, Monte Alto, the No. 2 seed in District 32-2A, couldn’t sustain its level of play in the later sets of a 19-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 loss.

RIVIERA KAUFER 3, SANTA MARIA 0: At Lasara, the Lady Cougars’ season came to a close with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-15 loss.
Santa Maria was the third seed in 32-2A.
