UTRGV baseball set to host No. 7 Texas

The UTRGV baseball team is set to host No. 7 Texas at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a nonconference contest at UTRGV BaseballStadium in Edinburg.

It will be Texas’ first trip to the Rio Grande Valley since 1971, when then-Pan American won three out of four games against theLonghorns.

“The Texas game is unique because it means more about the Broncs,” UTRGV head coach Derek Matlock said after the gameagainst Texas was announced in November. “This program back in the day was the Broncs, and they were unbelievable. They seta lot of records and did a lot of great things nationally, so for us to get Texas back down here, that’s a great honor, because tome it brings back the Broncs.”

The Vaqueros (22-15, 8-8 WAC) played the Longhorns (28-13, 7-6 Big 12) on April 5 in Austin, losing 13-5.

When the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team hosts Texas on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at UTRGV Baseball Stadium, there are a number of things fans need to know:

Can I Still Buy Tickets?
The game is sold out. Current UTRGV students can still gain access with their student ID.

What if My Tickets are at Will Call?
Fans picking up tickets at will call or from the pass list can pick up their tickets at the box office on the right side of the main entrance.

Where Do I Park?
Fans will be able to park anywhere on campus on game day. Seven parking lots are being specifically reserved for fans at different times of day.

Lot E32, the main stadium parking lot, and E31, which is across Elizabeth St. east of the stadium and behind the ROTC building, will be available for ticket holders only throughout the day. Fans will need to show their tickets to gain access to the parking lots. Both of these lots have accessible parking available.

There will be an accessible VOLT shuttle available to take fans from lot E31 to the stadium entrance.

Lot E33, which is behind center field, E34, which is to the west of the University Recreation Center (UREC), E9, which is across Schunior St., south of the stadium, and E27 and E26, which are east of the stadium on the south side of Schunior St., will become available to ticket holders only at 3 p.m. Fans will need to show their tickets to gain access to the parking lots.

Lot E34 is also serving as the rideshare pick up and drop off location.

A VOLT shuttle will be available for fans parking in lot E9.

Students will be able to park throughout the day in available parking in the other 32 lots on campus.

Can I Tailgate?
Tailgating will be allowed in Lot E33 beginning at 3 p.m. with one tailgate setup per parking space to include vehicle and canopies. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Saving parking spots is prohibited. To park together, guests must arrive together.

Tailgating should take place within four feet of the front or back of the vehicle.

Kegs, beer balls, and other common-source containers are prohibited on campus and in tailgating areas. This includes beer funnels. The alcohol consumption age requirement within the state of Texas is 21 years of age or older.

Grills are prohibited.

Fans can bring their own pre-made food and drinks for personal consumption only. Sales are prohibited.

Individuals may not erect or move barricades, barrels, fencing or any other traffic control devices.

Use of ATVs, golf carts, gators, scooters, mopeds, and other motorized recreational vehicles are prohibited.

All trash from tailgates must be disposed of properly in designated containers.

Restroom access will be available near the outfield corrals beyond center field.

While on UTRGV property, fans/visitors will agree to follow all UTRGV policies and authorities (including campus police).

If fans would like to opt-in to the UTRGV emergency notification system, they can send a text message to 888777 with GOUTRGV.

Where Do I Enter the Stadium?
Multiple gates will be open.

Current UTRGV students can enter on the northwest side of the stadium through a gate on Sugar Rd. that is roughly equivalent to the location of third base.

Season ticket holders, including those in suites, can enter on the southeast side of the stadium, next to the UTRGV baseball offices, through a gate that is roughly equivalent to the location of first base.

Corral ticket holders can enter through their regular entrance behind center field.

All other ticket holders can enter through the main gates next to the Coach Al & Joann Ogletree Plaza on the southwest side of the stadium.

When Can I Enter the Stadium?
Season ticket holders, including those with corrals and suites, will be able to enter the stadium at 5 p.m. All other fans can enter at 5:30 p.m.

What If I’m Early?
Fans are free to start lining up at the gates early. Additionally, KVEO will be doing their newscasts live at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. while CBS 4 will be doing their newscasts live at 5 and 6 p.m. in the Coach Al & Joann Ogletree Plaza. Fans are welcome to watch the newscasts or stand behind the desk, similar to how fans stand behind the ESPN College GameDay desk for college football games.

Bag Checks
All fans bringing in bags will be subject to bag checks. Fans are not permitted to bring in outside food or drink except for baby food and formula.

Where Can I Get Food and Drinks?
All concession stands will be open as normal with increased staffing. Sodexo will also be running snack and to-go carts on both sides of the stadium. Additionally, there will be five food trucks in the stadium, one of which will be near left field and the other four of which will be near right field.

Additionally, there will be six hawkers walking around the stadium selling concessions to fans in their seats and around the stadium.

Where Can I Get UTRGV Gear?
The UTRGV bookstore will be stationed in the pavilion on the first base side.

How Do I Pay?
Although cash is accepted, credit cards are preferred at all locations to help keep the lines moving.

Where are the Restrooms Located?
Men’s and women’s restrooms are located on both sides of the stadium. Additionally, there will be 10 total port-a-potties set up on the left and right field sides of the stadium to help alleviate traffic.

Can I Exit and Return to the Stadium?
No. There will be no re-entry allowed for this game.

Where Do I Sit?
Most tickets are general admission, meaning fans can sit wherever they can find a seat. There are no reserved seats, meaning fans can claim seats on a first-come, first-serve basis.

It should be noted that more tickets have been sold than there are seats available, meaning there will be numerous fans who will be standing during the game.

Fans are not permitted to bring lawn chairs into the stadium.

Is There a Recycling Option?
Yes. Our game sponsor, G3 Scrap Metal, has added several recycling bins throughout the stadium to allow our fans to make sustainable choices.

How Do I Exit the Parking Lots?
Fans exiting onto Schunior St., Sugar Rd., Chavez St. and Robert St. will only be able to make right turns. Only fans exiting onto Van Week St. will have the option of turning left or right. City of Edinburg Police will be on-site directing traffic.

Edinburg police will also be controlling multiple intersections, shutting off traffic lights where Schunior St. intersects with Sugar Rd., Jackson Rd. and McColl Rd. Edinburg police will also be controlling traffic at the corner of Sugar Rd. and Chapin St.
